Flea and Tick Extermination
Fleas and ticks are more than just a nuisance—they pose serious health risks to both humans and pets. Protecting your property in Indianapolis from these blood-sucking parasites is essential for the health and safety of your family and pets. Buzz Kill Pest Control offers comprehensive solutions designed to eliminate current infestations and provide long-term prevention.
The Dangers of Fleas and TicksThese pests are prolific carriers of various diseases, making professional control a health necessity, not just a convenience. Knowing the risks helps emphasize the need for effective treatment.
Flea-Borne Diseases:
- Bubonic Plague: While rare, fleas can transmit the bacteria *Yersinia pestis*.
- Typhus (Murine Typhus): Transmitted by the infected flea feces being rubbed into an open wound or inhaled.
- Cat Scratch Fever (*Bartonellosis*): Often spread to cats by flea bites, and then from cats to humans through scratches or bites.
- Tapeworms: Fleas can carry the larval stage of the tapeworm *Dipylidium caninum*, which can infect pets and humans if an infected flea is swallowed.
Tick-Borne Diseases:
- Lyme Disease: A serious bacterial infection transmitted by the blacklegged tick (deer tick).
- Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF): A severe rickettsial disease carried by the American dog tick, Rocky Mountain wood tick, and brown dog tick.
- Anaplasmosis: A bacterial disease that infects white blood cells, carried by the blacklegged tick and the western blacklegged tick.
- Babesiosis: A malaria-like illness caused by microscopic parasites that infect red blood cells, also carried by the blacklegged tick.
Our treatment plans are designed to target fleas and ticks at all stages of their life cycle—adults, larvae, and eggs—using professional-grade insecticides and Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs).
- Tier 1: Interior Spot Treatment ($150 minimum) - We use a long-lasting (up to 3 months) insecticidal spray with an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR). This is strategically applied to all cracks, crevices, and inaccessible voids on the inside perimeter of your entire home. This treatment provides long-lasting relief from adult fleas and prevents new fleas from reaching reproductive maturity. This tier is often sufficient for light, localized infestations.
*(Pre-treatment note: For effective control, we recommend clients vacuum thoroughly and dispose of the vacuum bag, and wash all bedding and pet items prior to our arrival.)*
- Tier 2: Intensive Interior Treatment ($300 minimum) - Includes everything in Tier 1, plus we use a ULV (Ultra Low Volume) fogger to apply a fast-acting, long-lasting (up to 3 months) insecticide as well as an IGR to the inside of your entire home. The fogger ensures deep penetration into carpets and furniture. This will immediately kill all adult fleas and prevent new fleas from reaching reproductive maturity. This is the recommended service for severe or widespread indoor infestations.
- Tier 3: Exterior Yard Treatment (Add-on: $150 minimum) - This is an essential add-on for comprehensive control, especially in homes with pets or properties backing up to wooded areas. We apply a long-lasting insecticide (up to 3 months) to your entire lawn and yard perimeter, focusing on shaded, moist, and high-grass areas where ticks and fleas congregate. This helps create a barrier against outdoor pests.
Important Pricing Information: Prices may vary depending on the size of the property, severity of infestation, and complexity of work. There is a $100 missed appointment fee. Prices subject to change without notice.
